Your MetLife x RIPL bottle set off a massive ripple effect of positive change
It funded a full day of employment for someone in Bali, Indonesia, to collect plastic from beaches, helping to lift them and their family out of poverty.
Your impact
11 years
The combined amount of employment time generated as a result of the MetLife x RIPL partnership this holiday season
4.3 million
The number of plastic bottles that we estimate will be prevented from reaching the ocean during that time
15,000
The number of garbage bags that amount of plastic would fill
The impact area:
Bali, Indonesia
Meet the team
We work with people in coastal communities who experience the effects of plastic pollution first hand, every day. By employing them to collect plastic, we're turning waste into a resource, providing a new source of income, and empowering them to protect their home.
How it works
The proceeds from your MetLife x RIPL bottle are being used to fund the employment of plastic collectors in Balinese coastal communities.
The collectors we work with clean beaches and waterways, preventing plastic from reaching the ocean. They then take the plastic to an 'impact centre', where they sort it ready for recycling.
As well as preventing ocean plastic and reducing poverty, its spreads awareness of the problem and enables local people to become part of the solution.
Why do we do it?
Our oceans are being choked by plastic.
But despite the scale of the problem, we believe that every action really can make a huge difference.
When we focus our efforts on creating systemic change – like employment and ongoing recycling programs – the impact extends far beyond the initial action, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
